Manufacturing

Investing in the startup and expansion of local, midsize manufacturing keeps our economy strong and stable. Let’s invest in those that invested in us.

GENESIS EXPANSION

Water Utility

Superior has the only private water system in the state and the highest rates. We can bring down rates and provide public oversight by acquiring the water utility.

WPR STORY

Housing

We’ve built hundreds of new housing units in Superior, but now we have to protect affordability. We can create programs and funds that give every families a real shot at home ownership or affordable rent.

STORY

Local Business

Small, local businesses are the backbone of our entire economy and Superior is booming right now. Let’s step up our investments in our neighbors who care about our community and keep every dollar in Superior.

STORY

Community First.

We’ve restored our parks and shoreline, rebuilt our downtown, and created one of the fastest growing economies in Wisconsin. We did it by putting our neighbors at the center of every conversation.

Superior has the potential to be one of the most beautiful and visited cities in our state. It can also be the best place to live on the Lake Superior shoreline. We can make this city work for everyone by reducing the cost of utilities, building affordable housing, and combining access to nature with efficient transportation and economic development.

A city that works for everyone.

Blatnik Bridge

Losing our bridge for five years will be a headache. But with proper leadership it might be an opportunity. If we get aggressive about investing in local business, we can create a thriving economy that doesn’t rely on our neighbors in Minnesota.

Smart Investments

We’ve rebuilt our fire headquarters as the most efficient fire hall in the state. Now we will break ground on a new north end firehall. Both will use solar energy to power electric rescue vehicles and fire rigs. We’ll also rebuild our fleet of police and public works vehicles with faster, and more efficient modern vehicles.

Financial Health

Superior is now one of the most fiscally sound cities in Wisconsin. We have reduced our debt, diversified our revenue, increased our reserves, and reduced taxes and fees. As we further expand our revenue and improve our efficiency, we can invest more heavily in infrastructure and even pass savings on to taxpayers.

Tourism

Superior is the only city in the Twin Ports where tourism is actually growing. We did it by telling our story all over Wisconsin. We’ll keep doing that, but we’ll also keep creating new things for our visitors to see and do. That means new programing at all of our museums, better parks, beaches, and trails, and a nightlife that can keep up with any Wisconsinite.

City Owned Properies

Barker’s Island Marina, Nemadji Golf Course, Fairlawn Mansion, Police and Fire Museum and the Whaleback Ship are all thriving with increased revenue despite regular investments. But we have to keep improving if we want to remain the best city in the Twin Ports. Over the next few years we will bring new storytelling and national recognition to our museums and rebuild essential infrastructure at the Marina and Golf Course.

Government Transparency

Jim Paine is the most accessible Mayor in the history of the Twin Ports. You can reach him in person nearly every day. But you now have even more access to government as well through high definition videos of all meetings and financial documents that you can actually read and understand. Now we should work to move every single public record to a public space so you can see not only what we are doing, but everything we’ve done.

Respect & Protect.

Lake Superior, the Municipal Forest, & Wisconsin Point

We have restored and improved Wisconsin Point, improved access to the forest, added bathrooms to several parks, established working partnership with local tribes. and improved water quality in every corner of Superior. We must continue to protect our forest from development, end the discharge of pollutants into our rivers, and finally bring swimming back to Billings Park.
